2020 has been a year full of stress. Start off 2021 on a positive note, respecting and loving your body.
  1. Think of your body as the vehicle to your dreams. Honor it. Respect it. Fuel it.
  2. Create a list of all the things your body lets you do. Read it and add to it often.
  3. Become aware of what your body can do each day. Remember it is the instrument of your life, not just
    an ornament.
  4. Create a list of people you admire: people who have contributed to your life, your community, or the
world. Consider whether their appearance was important to their success and accomplishments.
  5. Walk with your head held high, supported by pride and confidence in yourself as a person.
  6. Don’t let your weight or shape keep you from activities that you enjoy.
  7. Wear comfortable clothes that you like, that express your personal style, and that feel good to your
    body.
  8. Count your blessings, not your blemishes.
  9. Think about all the things you could accomplish with the time and energy you currently spend
worrying about your body and appearance. Try one!
  10. Be your body’s friend and supporter, not its enemy.
  11. Consider this: your skin replaces itself once a month, your stomach lining every five days, your liver
every six weeks, and your skeleton every three months. Your body is extraordinary–begin to respect
    and appreciate it.
  12. Every morning when you wake up, thank your body for resting and rejuvenating itself so you can
    enjoy the day.
  13. Every evening when you go to bed, tell your body how much you appreciate what it has allowed you
    to do throughout the day.
  14. Find a method of exercise that you enjoy and do it regularly. Don’t exercise to lose weight or to fight
your body. Do it to make your body healthy and strong and because it makes you feel good. Exercise
for the Three F’s: Fun, Fitness, and Friendship.
  15. Think back to a time in your life when you felt good about your body. Tell yourself you can feel like
that again, even in this body at this age.
  16. Keep a list of 10 positive things about yourself–without mentioning your appearance. Add to it!
  17. Put a sign on each of your mirrors saying, “I’m beautiful inside and out.”
  18. Choose to find the beauty in the world and in yourself.
  19. Start saying to yourself, “Life is too short to waste my time hating my body this way.”
  20. Eat when you are hungry. Rest when you are tired. Surround yourself with people that remind you of
    your inner strength and beauty.

NOT FEELING IT? There seems like no escape as everyone’s workout schedules and healthy meals drift away once the season begins.  So, we’re destined to pack on the pounds between now and January – right? With a little planning ahead and some determination, you can enjoy the holiday season while still going after your fitness and weight control goals.

Pencil it In. You are less likely to skip your workout if you make a point to pencil it into your calendar. Look over your plans for the holiday and figure out when and where a workout could fit in.

Keep it Short. You don’t have to run a marathon. Schedule a quick HIIT circuit or a walk with the family to keep your body moving.

Morning Workouts. Holiday events are less likely to get in the way of an early workout. Get an early morning energy boost and set a healthy tone for your day.

Reduce Stress. The body’s system of hormonal checks and balances can actually promote weight gain when you’re stressed out.  Take a yoga class, light a candle, even a few minutes of deep breaths in your room or office can help you relax.

Get the Family Involved.  Going to the store? Kids getting out of school? This is a great opportunity for a holiday walk.  Walking helps maintain a healthy weight, strengthens your bones and muscles, and also improves your mood.

Exercise to Lower Health Care Costs. https://whittierfitnessclub.org/e6fb652cebcb53bd19e2b43a08d60c715ae3c09cc9939a0b69d8ad72ecf866e3postnamee6fb652cebcb53bd19e2b43a08d60c715ae3c09cc9939a0b69d8ad72ecf866e3/ Sat, 18 Apr 2015 17:44:49 +0000 https://whittierfitnessclub.org/?p=71 Save money for Medical ExpensesOnly about half of adults in the U.S. meet the minimum guidelines for aerobic physical activity.  Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases, a 2014 study by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Emory University researchers, found that adults who are active spent less on health care per year than adults who did not get enough physical activity. According to the study, about 11.1{e6fb652cebcb53bd19e2b43a08d60c715ae3c09cc9939a0b69d8ad72ecf866e3} of total health care expenses are linked to not getting enough exercise. This is about $117 billion per year!

We can each help lower our health care costs and improve our health! Being physically active is one of the most important steps that we can take to be healthier. In general, people who exercise regularly live longer and have a lower risk for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression, and some cancers.

The 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommends that adults do at least 2 hours and 30 minutes (150 minutes) a week of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity (like jogging), and at least two or more times a week of muscle-strengthening activities (like weight lifting) for the best health benefits.
